Man turns girlfriend's 28th birthday into a public lecture by announcing he has paid off her student loans then backtracking, saying he only paid half: "He wants me to learn to be financially responsible"

There are some people out there that that can't help but turn literally everything into some sort of teachable moment. A lot of people like this are dads, and their penchant for lecturing leaks over from their parenting into their social lives. Other people are simply born like this; they might simply enjoy sharing knowledge, or they might have a subconscious need to be the smartest person in the room. It's not always so bad. If you're at a zoo with a marine biologist, for example, a bit of information is welcome – expected, even. However, getting unsolicited lecture-length advice from a friend is almost always off-putting.

In our story today, a man gives his girlfriend some financial guidance regarding her student loans. Except, he does it at her birthday party in the weirdest way possible. At first, he brings our protagonist to tears by announcing that he has paid off her student loans.
